Madhya Pradesh's 'Scheduled Caste Boys/Girls Housing Assistance' scheme: Eligibility, benefits and FAQs

For many students pursuing higher education away from home, accommodation costs can add significantly to the financial burden of studies. To help ease this expense, the Madhya Pradesh government has a “Scheduled Caste Boys/Girls Housing Assistance Scheme”, that provides monthly rental assistance to eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) students living in rented accommodation while studying outside their hometown.It provides monthly rental housing stipends to SC students who reside in rented accommodations while pursuing higher education outside their hometown.The financial support is of up to Rs. 2,000 for residential facilities and is classified into three categories:

  • Rs. 2,000 per month for those residing in a divisional headquarter( Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain).
  • Rs. 1,250 per month for those in other district headquarters.
  • Rs. 1,000 per month, if the student is residing in a Tehsil/Development Block Headquarters.

Who is eligible? A college student, a native of Madhya Pradesh living outside their hometown for studies, and belongs to a scheduled caste (SC) category is eligible to apply for financial assistance under the scheme. Also, the applicant should meet the income limit prescribed under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.What is the application processThe application process is divided into two stages: registration and application submission.Before your open your laptop/mobile phone to fill the application, make sure to keep a copy of your proof of identity: caste certificate, income certificate, proof of college admission, and bank account detailsHere’s a detailed step-by-step process:

  • For registration, the applicant has to visit the Madhya Pradesh tribal welfare and scheduled caste welfare automation system MPTAAS portal, click on the “New Beneficiary Profile Registration” and fill in all the required details.
  • Then, upload all required documents and click “Submit”. After successful payment and submission, you will receive a registration number.
  • The application has to be submitted on the same portal. You need to enter your user ID, password, and captcha code, then click “Login.”
  • Choose the scheme you wish to apply for and fill in required information along with uploading the necessary documents.
  • Finally, click on “Submit Application” to complete the process.

How will the applicant receive the financial assistance?The amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).Can students from other states apply for this scheme?The scheme offers benefits solely to students hailing from Madhya PradeshCan students staying in a hostel avail the benefits of this scheme?No, the scheme is only for those students residing in rented accommodations and not for hostlers.
