NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday handed over the Made-in-India Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR to Seychelles, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the island nation’s maritime security and deepening bilateral defence cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.The vessel was presented to Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during a high-level handover ceremony held at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria on the first day of PM Modi‘s official State Visit to the island nation. Manufactured by Goa Shipyard Limited, the specialised patrol vessel is expected to significantly enhance Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol capabilities.“The transfer of the Fast Patrol Vessel Lespwar to the Seychelles Coast Guard marks another important milestone in the growing partnership between India and Seychelles in defence and maritime security,” PM Modi said in a post on X.“Let us rest assured to stand shoulder to shoulder with shoulder with Seychelles as a partner in whom we can place trust, working together to deepen lasting friendship and strengthen our collective maritime capacity,” he added.Besides the patrol vessel, PM Modi also handed over six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to Seychelles. According to the MEA, the assistance will further contribute to the island nation’s development, disaster response and maritime security.Sharing details on the same, MEA said, “Together as partners.
