Patna: The state govt has decided to conduct a comprehensive survey of Khasmahal land across all districts to create an updated database on its status, usage, encroachments, pending court cases and revenue records, revenue and land reforms minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said after a review meeting with a delegation of the Khasmahal Citizen Welfare Society in Patna on Thursday.Khasmahal land comprises govt-owned estates that were leased to individuals during the British era. Since ownership remains with the state, occupants hold only lease rights. Such land cannot be sold or used for commercial purposes without govt approval.Jaiswal directed officials to seek detailed reports from district magistrates on the status of Khasmahal land in their respective districts. Department secretary Jai Singh and other senior officials attended the meeting.The minister said the govt has initiated the process of converting Khasmahal land into freehold property and is committed to finding a permanent solution to long-pending issues through public participation.To oversee the exercise, a five-member committee comprising senior departmental officials will be constituted to regularly monitor and review the survey. The campaign will be supervised from the state headquarters to ensure transparency, accountability and timely completion.Jaiswal said the initiative aims to ensure better management, transparency and preservation of Khasmahal land. An integrated database will be prepared using information received from districts, which will help improve land administration and support future policy decisions and administrative action, he added.
