Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s courtroom drama ‘Prahaar’ delayed, won't hit theatres on August 7 - Report
Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama ‘Prahaar’, based on Ujjwal Nikam’s cases, has reportedly been postponed from its August 7 release due to a crowded market featuring Spider-Man, Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2. Maddock Films’ Eetha may also shift dates. Co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi, Prahaar covers the 1993 and 2008 Mumbai attacks; no new date announced yet.

Rajkummar Rao‘s courtroom drama ‘Prahaar’ is reportedly being postponed, moving away from its earlier planned theatrical release on August 7, 2026. The film draws inspiration from high-profile cases argued by public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, and the delay stems from the makers reconsidering the busy release lineup. Interest in the project picked up after its trailer, attached to ‘Cocktail 2’, offered a glimpse of Rajkummar’s transformation and the courtroom setting. A new date for its release, however, is still awaited.

Prahaar’s release decision taken after stakeholder talks

According to Bollywood Hungama, the decision was taken after discussions with the film’s stakeholders. ‘Prahaar’ was scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 7. However, the makers have now decided to postpone its release. After discussions with the stakeholders, they felt that it would not be advisable to release the film during that period.

‘Prahaar’ to avoid clash with big releases

The period around Prahaar’s original release date is crowded with big releases, with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ set to hit theatres a week prior, and ‘Batwara 1947’ and ‘Awarapan 2’ following a week after. Given this, the film is reportedly seen as significant enough to warrant a clearer release window instead of competing with multiple high-profile titles at once. The makers are yet to officially confirm the postponement.‘Prahaar’ was one of two films from Maddock Films set to release in August, the other being Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’, originally planned for August 28. might also be moved to avoid clashing with Yash’s ‘Toxic’, which releases on August 26. But neither change has been officially confirmed yet. If both these reports turn out true, films’ August releases would look very different from what was first planned.

‘Prahaar’ features Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi‘s second collaboration

‘Prahaar’, helmed by director Avinash Arun, is said to draw from landmark cases associated with public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, with its story expected to revisit the legal proceedings tied to the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The film features Wamiqa Gabbi opposite Rajkummar Rao, marking their second on-screen pairing following the successful ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’.
