Farhan Akhtar reacts to reports of exiting Aamir Khan’s ‘Lalkaara’: ‘How do I exit a project when I had never even entered it officially?’

Farhan Akhtar has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that he exited Aamir Khan‘s upcoming sports drama ‘Lalkaara’. Reacting to the speculation for the first time, the actor-filmmaker clarified that he was never officially associated with the project, making the reports of his departure inaccurate. He also explained that being in discussions for a film should not be confused with signing on to it, as actors often evaluate several offers before making a final commitment.

Farhan Akhtar clears the air on ‘Lalkaara’

Reacting to the reports, Farhan dismissed the claims and explained that discussions around potential projects should not be mistaken for confirmed commitments. Speaking to Mid-Day, Akhtar said, “How do I exit a project when I had never even entered it officially?” He further elaborated that actors often explore multiple opportunities before deciding which films to take up. “In the course of one’s career trajectory, every actor comes across many offers and projects. You sign some projects, and don’t sign some. It’s as simple as that.”‘Lalkaara’, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series and stars Aamir Khan in the lead. The film is being backed by Excel Entertainment, founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Focus shifts to Pandit Ravi Shankar‘s biopic

While putting the rumours to rest, Farhan is currently concentrating on an international project in which he will portray legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. The film is one of four interconnected movies based on the lives of members of The Beatles. Acclaimed filmmaker Sam Mendes, known for directing films such as ‘Revolutionary Road’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Spectre’, ‘Empire of Light’ and ‘Hamnet’, is helming all four films, which are scheduled for release in April 2028.

RD Burman film still under discussion

Farhan also confirmed that discussions are underway regarding Neeraj Pandey’s planned biopic on music legend RD Burman but maintained that nothing has been finalised.“It’s too early to say anything. Playing one musical icon (Pandit Ravi Shankar) is a huge responsibility. I am completely focused on that. To play another musical icon (R D Burman), I have to get into another mindset, mood and era.”

Javed Akhtar may join creative team

The proposed RD Burman biopic could also see veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar associated with the project as a creative consultant. Javed Akhtar had worked closely with RD Burman on memorable films including ‘Sagar’, ‘Arjun’, ‘Betaab’ and ‘1942: A Love Story’, making his involvement a significant addition if the collaboration moves forward.
