Bengaluru college launches SIR campaign to boost voter enrolment before August 8 deadline
Don Bosco College empowers 1,000 students to drive voter registration awareness

BENGALURU: With the objective of strengthening democratic participation and promoting constitutional awareness among young citizens, the Department of Social Work, Don Bosco College, K R Puram, Bengaluru, organised a three-day Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Awareness Campaign from 29 July to 31 July 2026. Over 1,000 students across various academic departments attended the campaign to become active ambassadors of voter registration within their families and communities. The awareness sessions were led by Fr George PS, director of BISS. Addressing students from different disciplines, he explained the significance of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls and stressed the importance of ensuring that every eligible citizen is included in the voters’ list. Students were encouraged not only to verify their own family’s voter registration status but also to motivate their parents, elder brothers, elder sisters, relatives, and neighbours to complete the Enumeration Form before the stipulated deadline.Emphasizing the urgency of the campaign, Fr. George cautioned that failure to participate in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision could result in eligible voters being left out of the electoral rolls, thereby depriving them of their opportunity to exercise their democratic franchise. Referring to the Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2002 in the State of Karnataka, he observed that over one hundred thousand names were reportedly omitted from the electoral rolls. He also referred to reported instances of large scale deletion of voters’ names in West Bengal, underscoring the need for every citizen to remain vigilant and ensure the accuracy of electoral records.A key highlight of the programme was the practical demonstration on completing the Enumeration Form. Students received step-by-step guidance on eligibility criteria, required documents, important timelines, and both the online and offline methods of registration. Fr. George also familiarized them with the role of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and encouraged them to seek assistance from these designated officials whenever required.Students were asked to become catalysts for democratic participation by reaching out to their families and neighborhood and assisting as many eligible citizens as possible in completing the SIR process before the 8 August 2026 deadline.
