Trichy: A 23-year-old woman was killed after a speeding mini truck hit a moped on which she was riding pillion at Mannarpuram traffic signal on Trichy-Madurai NH in Trichy on Tuesday morning. Her friend who was riding the two-wheeler suffered minor injuries.Police identified the deceased as R Abinaya from Karambakudi in Pudukottai district. She arrived in Trichy on Monday to attend a competitive examination.On Tuesday morning, she and her village neighbour D Sandhya Devi, 23, were on their way to Panjapur integrated bus terminus on a moped. When their moped came to a halt at the Mannarpuram traffic signal, the speeding mini truck approaching from behind rammed it. Abinaya was thrown off the vehicle and came under the wheels of the mini truck, succumbing to head injuries on the spot, police said.Police registered a case and seized the mini truck. They also detained the driver for an inquiry.
