‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ has become one of Bollywood’s most successful horror-comedy franchises. Every time a new part is released, fans immediately start asking about the next one. The same thing happened after ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ came out, and now people want to know about part four. Reports earlier said that ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4’ was being planned, with Kartik Aaryan set to return as Rooh Baba. But director Anees Bazmee has now spoken about why the film hasn’t moved ahead despite all the excitement around it.
Anees Bazmee says finding the right script, not casting, is the challenge
In conversation with Variety India, Bazmee shared that casting and scheduling aren’t really the obstacle here, what’s actually holding things up is the search for a story capable of matching the success of the earlier films. He pointed out that it would need to bring something entirely new to the table. The filmmaker explained that since they had “put everything in the first three films,” they now need a good story. “We even made the hero Manjulika! So naturally, now we need a great story to make the fourth film,” he said. He mentioned that they were still on the lookout for the right idea, and once they find it, “I would love to direct it.”
Anees Bazmee praises Kartik Aaryan as a “director’s actor”
While the hunt for a strong script was still on, Bazmee had plenty of praise for Kartik, who breathed new life into the franchise with his portrayal of Rooh Baba. “I have a great rapport with Kartik. We are good friends, and both the films that we have made turned out to be big hits.”Bazmee described Kartik as a director’s actor. “His biggest plus point is that he puts in a lot of hard work. If he gets the help of a good director, he can do wonders. He is great at comedy and is full of laughter all day,” the director revealed.

Bazmee further touched upon his tendency to repeatedly collaborate with actors he shares a strong creative bond with. Having worked alongside stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan across several hit films, he believes that trust and friendship often translate into better on-screen collaboration. “I feel it is the friendship that when we work with each other, we enjoy it and the whole emotion is different. So I am sure, with Kartik too, whenever I make a film, we will make a good one,” he shared.

While ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4’ remains on hold for the time being, Bazmee has his hands full with another major project. He shared that he’s currently working on wrapping up a new comedy film starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, alongside Vidya Balan, Rashii Khanna and other actors.
