Chhaya Kadam, the National Award-winning actor, dives into perhaps her most dramatic look yet in the upcoming horror-comedy ‘Bhootam Bhayam’. Her first look, from the film written and directed by Ramchandra Arun Gaonkar, shows a rough, ghostly figure with a piercing stare, blending old folk-tale-style horror with the movie’s lighter, funnier moments.
Why the character drew her to the project
In an interview with Variety India, Chhaya spoke about her look, even as the makers keep the plot under wraps. Kadam shared that the sheer uniqueness of her character drew her to the project right away. She explained, “This is a story of a friendship between young children, so I had no doubt that it would be energetic. As an actor, I insist on doing something different with every role. That is something I pay attention to. Ramchandra described a character from a different world. Her look, speech and laughter – everything was unique. He said that her language would be a lot of gibberish. So I knew that I would have to learn a lot of things and work on a lot of things, which I always like.”
Not recognizing herself in the look test
The director gave her a rough idea of what the character would look like, but Kadam says she wasn’t ready for the final look. She shared, “He had given me an inkling about what the character would look like, and why I needed him. But to be honest, even then I didn’t know how I would look when I was fully ready. But when I saw myself in the look test, I couldn’t recognize myself. So, I felt very good.”
