Flash floods wash away bridge in Arunachal’s Kra Daadi, 8 villages cut off

Itanagar: An 84-metre steel truss bridge over the Kumey river on the strategic Yangte-Tali road in Kra Daadi district of Arunachal has been washed away in flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall, cutting off at least eight remote villages in Tali assembly constituency. The bridge, located between Jha and Ruhi villages, was the main road link for residents of the area and crucial for the movement of emergency services and daily supplies. Its collapse has snapped road connectivity, leaving hundreds of people stranded.Pipsorang SDO Yumlam Pulu and Tali East ZPM Rughu Tama visited the site on Tuesday to assess the damage. Officials said the bridge had become unsafe after its structural integrity was compromised, bringing vehicular movement on the Yangte-Tali road to a complete halt. The flash floods have also caused damage to houses along the Kumey river . Pulu said more than 20 residential houses near the riverbanks were affected by the swollen river. He appealed to people to follow safety advisories issued by the Kra Daadi district administration and avoid going near riverbanks during heavy rain.Continuous monsoon rain has also damaged educational infrastructure in Tali. Boundary walls of Govt Secondary School, Girls’ Wing, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya collapsed following waterlogging and loosening of soil.Tama urged the state govt to immediately provide relief and rehabilitation packages to the affected families. He also sought urgent temporary restoration of connectivity and early reconstruction of the washed-away bridge, saying the road is a lifeline for the cut-off villages and vital for resuming govt operations in the area.
