Kochi: Kerala is set to receive widespread heavy rain over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow and orange alerts across the state. On Thursday, orange alerts have been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur, while all other districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha are under yellow alert.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue on Friday and Saturday, with yellow and orange alerts in place across all districts.The weather conditions are linked to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal near the Odisha-West Bengal coast. The IMD has also issued wind and fishermen’s warnings for Kerala and Lakshadweep till Aug 2.Despite the forecast of widespread rain, Kerala continues to record a 36% rainfall deficit for the southwest monsoon season (June 1 to July 29). Idukki and Wayanad have reported the highest deficiency at 60%.Squally weather is expected along and off the Kerala coast from Thursday to Sunday, with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
