Despite the rain washing out the opening T20I against India, England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler achieved a significant personal milestone by completing 100 dismissals in T20 Internationals. Buttler reached the landmark when he produced a lightning-fast stumping to dismiss Harshit Rana off the bowling of Adil Rashid during India’s innings. The former England skipper was quick to gather Rashid’s googly after Rana charged down the pitch looking for a big hit. Beaten by the turn, the Indian batter failed to get back in time as Buttler whipped off the bails in a flash, registering his 100th T20I dismissal behind the stumps. With the feat, Buttler became only the second wicketkeeper in T20I history and first for England to complete 100 dismissals, joining South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who leads the list with 117 dismissals.

Match Abandoned

India’s first T20I against England at Chester-le-Street ended in a no-result after persistent rain prevented England from beginning their chase of 190. After electing to bat, India recovered from 6/2 courtesy of a blistering 59 off 24 balls from Abhishek Sharma and a composed 68 off 47 from captain Shreyas Iyer, who also crossed the milestone of 5,000 international runs. Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 42 off 21 provided the finishing flourish as India posted 189/7, while Saqib Mahmood starred with the ball for England, claiming 3/33. However, heavy rain after the innings break forced the match to be abandoned without a ball being bowled in England’s innings.
