Man claims mother-in-law's US visa got 'revoked midflight' for 2-day overstay on previous visit, was sent back from Singapore
Redditor claims that his mother-in-law’s US visa was revoked midflight because she was allowed to travel to Singapore from Bengaluru but was barred from boarding the Singapore-Seattle flight. (AI image)

A Redditor shared a strange situation, claiming that his 82-year-old mother-in-law was not allowed to travel from Singapore to Seattle and was told that her visa was revoked. Without explanation, she was told she could not travel any further, and the other family members traveling with her had to return to India to drop her off. The man said that it was a regular 10-year visitor visa which was issued three years ago. The woman traveled to the US on a similar visitor’s visa for 20 years and went to the US on this particular visa before. The family reached Singapore from Bengaluru and they were not informed about the visa revocation at the airport. The Reddit post led to confusion as many users claimed that they had never heard of such a situation where a visa got revoked mid-flight. The Redditor later clarified that he found that his mother-in-law overstayed for two days during her previous visit. She had landed in the US on February 22 and was supposed to leave on August 21, but she left on August 23.The man said that the two-day overstay could not be a legitimate justification for not informing them about the visa status.“Yes. We have broken the law technically. But not in spirit. And we are ready to pay the consequences for that (visa revocation). A warning instead of revocation would have been kind and generous. But i understand that is not the world we live in. But that doesn’t mean they are justified to put us through what they made us go through. Its negligence and harassment. We had to spend thousands of dollars to rebook all tickets, book hotel, etc. And that’s just the financial cost,” the Redditor said.Social media users said that the visa was not revoked midflight and it must have ben canceled earlier but the authorities in Bengaluru airport did not properly check and let the mother-in-law travel to Singapore.
