Vismaya Mohanlal is preparing for her acting debut with ‘Thudakkam’, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph.Ahead of the film’s August release, the actor spoke candidly about dealing with public attention and criticism. Despite growing up as the daughter of one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars, Vismaya says she has never felt that her life has been under constant scrutiny.
Vismaya Mohanlal says she never felt like she is living under a microscope
During the interview with Galatta Plus, Vismaya was asked whether recent controversies and her identity as a star kid made her feel as though she was living under a microscope or inside a “goldfish bowl.”Responding to the question, she said that she has never experienced that feeling because she spent most of her life away from Kerala.“To be honest, I’ve never felt like I’m living under a microscope. I have spent most of my life outside Kerala, in Ooty. So I’ve never really felt that people were constantly watching me.”According to Vismaya, her upbringing away from the Malayalam film industry’s spotlight gave her a relatively normal environment while growing up.

Vismaya admitted that public judgement is inevitable because of her family background. She acknowledged that people naturally have expectations of her as Mohanlal’s daughter.“People will judge me because I’m Mohanlal’s daughter. They will also have expectations about me. Some people like my father as an actor, while others don’t. Their opinions about him will naturally affect me too. That’s only normal.”She explained that every public figure receives different reactions from audiences. As a result, the opinions people hold about her father can sometimes extend to her as well. However, she considers that a natural consequence of being part of a well-known family.
Social media criticism doesn’t bother her
Vismaya also revealed that online criticism has little impact on her because she avoids reading comments on social media.“I don’t take any of that to heart. I don’t even read the comments on social media.”*Her remarks come after she recently drew attention for expressing support for the CJP protest.
Public attention is most noticeable when she is with Mohanlal
While Vismaya says she rarely feels under constant observation, she admitted that she notices public attention whenever she appears alongside her father.“Whenever I go to the airport with my father, a lot of people look at me. Other than that, I’ve never really felt it was a major issue.”With ‘Thudakkam’ marking her entry into cinema, Vismaya is set to begin a new chapter in her career. Expectations are high for ‘Thudakkam’, as the director Jude Anthanu Joseph has set the bar high with his films ‘Om Shanthi Oshana’, and ‘2018’.
