Kannada actor-director Rishab Shetty rose to fame after the release of his 2021 culturally rich ‘Kantara’. The film not only became a critical hit but went out to be a worldwide box office hit. He has received two big honours at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026. He won the Best Director award for the sequel ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ which was released in 2025 and also received the Leadership in Cinema Award.

The awards were presented at the event on Sunday. Rishab Shetty later shared a gratitude post on Instagram. He also shared pictures of the awards and certificates.He wrote, “Deeply honoured to receive the Best Director Award for ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ and the Leadership in Cinema Award at @iffmelbourne 2026. These honours belong to my entire team, Kannada cinema and the culture and traditions that inspire our stories. Heartfelt gratitude.”

He went for a traditional look as he wore a black silk-cotton kurta with a handwoven pure silk dhoti.The ivory dhoti had a zari border that added a simple rich touch to the look. The black kurta kept the outfit clean and simple. The traditional dhoti gave the actor a strong cultural look. At the same time, the black kurta made the outfit fit well for an international red carpet event.
About ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’
Speaking about his recent hit, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ tells the story of the origins of Daiva worship in Tulunadu. The story goes back to the fourth-century Kadamba dynasty.Rishab Shetty plays Berme, who protects the Kantara forest and its tribal communities. The story follows the fight between a royal family that wants to take control and the tribals who stand against them.The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in important roles. Rakesh Poojari, Hariprashanth MG, Deepak Rai Panaje, Shaneel Gautham and Naveen Bondel are also part of the cast.
