Navi Mumbai: A 12-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man returning home to Vikhroli from Ratnagiri were killed after a dumper allegedly hit their two-wheeler and ran over them on Mumbai-Goa highway near Kharpada in Raigad on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.Police filed an FIR against the dumper driver, Jharkhand resident Gautam Mahato, who fled the accident spot and invoked relevant sections of BNS and Motor Vehicles Act. A manhunt for him was launched.Locals blocked the highway for over an hour to protest the deaths of the boy, Yash Ballal, and Aaditya Ballal, and alleged that dumpers illegally transport massive quantities of minor minerals at night. Vehicles piled up over a few kilometres towards Goa owing to the blockade. Locals also suspected the driver was drunk, but police have not confirmed it. Police later restored the movement of traffic after persuading the protesters to disperse.
