Jamal Musiala’s goal against RB Leipzig was followed by a worrying moment on Saturday when the Bayern Munich midfielder suddenly went down and appeared to lose consciousness. The Germany international was quickly attended to by new team-mate Ismael Saibari and the medical staff before he eventually walked from the pitch on his own, although he appeared unsteady and shaken.

Musiala goes down minutes after scoring

The incident came in the closing stages of Bayern’s 3-1 victory at the Allianz Arena, just minutes after Musiala had scored the hosts’ third goal.In the 81st minute, Musiala finished off a move created by summer signing Ismael Saibari, who was making his first appearance for Bayern following his move from PSV Eindhoven. But shortly afterwards, the mood inside the stadium changed completely.Musiala went down in the opposition half and appeared to lose consciousness for a brief period. Saibari immediately rushed towards him and called for the medical team, while several Bayern players gathered around their team-mate.Referee Robert Hartmann stopped the match as the emergency doctor ran onto the pitch. After a brief examination, Musiala was able to get back to his feet and leave the field under his own power. He was replaced by the young Senegalese forward Bara Njie in the 86th minute.Although Musiala managed to walk off, he appeared unsteady and shaken, leaving the exact cause of the episode unclear immediately after the match.

Bayern provide update after worrying episode

Bayern captain Manuel Neuer said after the match that the club was still waiting for a clearer understanding of what had happened.“It will become clear what it was. But of course we are keeping our fingers crossed,” Neuer told MagentaTV.According to SID, Musiala suffered a spell of weakness and complained of dizziness and circulatory problems during a match played in temperatures above 30 degrees.Sport1 also reported that Musiala had experienced dizziness and circulatory problems linked to the heat.Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, subsequently offered a brief update and said the most important thing was that the 23-year-old was doing well.“He’s doing well, that’s the most important thing,” Eberl told Bild.Eberl said initial examinations by Bayern’s doctors had revealed nothing concerning, with the midfielder expected to rest and recover over the following days. The conditions were particularly demanding, with temperatures in Munich reaching around 33 degrees during the match.

Musiala was not Bayern’s only injury concern

The episode involving Musiala was one of several injury scares Bayern experienced during their penultimate pre-season friendly.Konrad Laimer was forced off earlier after a challenge with Leipzig’s David Raum left him in severe pain around his right leg, with the thigh or knee appearing to be affected.Eberl explained that Laimer had taken a knock and that his foot had quickly swollen, prompting Bayern to remove him as a precaution.“Konny took a knock pretty early, and his foot also swelled up pretty quickly. That’s why we took him off as a precaution,” Eberl said.He added that Laimer had reached a point where he could no longer walk without support and was not moving freely.“I really can’t say today how long it will take,” Eberl said.Min-jae Kim was also substituted after just over an hour because of thigh problems, meaning Bayern finished the match with several concerns despite securing another pre-season victory.

Bayern complete 3-1 win

The result itself continued Bayern’s preparations for the new campaign.Luis Díaz opened the scoring before Leipzig equalised through Brajan Gruda, but Bayern restored their advantage through Nathanael Brown, another summer arrival, before Musiala completed the scoring in the 81st minute. The 3-1 victory came as Bayern continued their build-up towards the domestic season, with the German champions due to face Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup the following weekend. Before that, Bayern have one final friendly scheduled for Tuesday against 1. FC Heidenheim, after which attention will turn to the Supercup and their Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart on August 28.For now, however, the result has been overshadowed by the brief scare involving Musiala, with Eberl’s assessment that the midfielder was doing well providing the main source of relief after an unsettling end to the match.
