The line between digital content creation and music is becoming increasingly fluid, with creators moving beyond the platforms on which they first built their audiences. Malvika is among those making that transition, with her latest single, Ear Candy, arriving as she continues to explore music alongside her earlier work.Born in California to Mumbai-raised parents, her creative influences reflect both cultures. She trained in Bharatanatyam as a child and grew up watching Bollywood films at home, while her life outside was rooted in California. Regular visits to Mumbai also kept her connected to India. That mix of influences began finding its way into her music when she shifted focus from fashion and lifestyle content to songwriting in 2025.The following year, she released the five-track EP Online/irl, which examined themes familiar to a generation that has grown up online — the gap between public and private identities, visibility on social media and the pressure of maintaining a curated image. The move also reflects a wider shift among digital creators who are increasingly experimenting with formats beyond the platforms that first made them recognisable. For those whose careers have largely unfolded in public, changing creative direction can also mean navigating audience expectations while developing an identity separate from their online persona.
