Oppn slams TVK govt over rape & murder of 3-yr-old child

Chennai: The state govt has been facing flak for repeated offences against women and children. On Monday, leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP state president K Nainar Nagenthran condemned the sexual assault and murder of a three year old girl near Gummidipoondi on Monday.PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran and founder of ‘We The Peoples’ movement K Annamalai have also flayed the govt.Expressing shock over the child’s death who was sexually assaulted and abandoned in a bush, Udhayanidhi said on X the incident was another reminder of the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. “Crimes that people once read about as incidents that occurred far away have become a daily occurrence in Tamil Nadu under this Sofa Model govt,” he said.Accusing chief minister C Joseph Vijay of failing to protect women and children, Udhayanidhi said the chief minister, who used children as a “tool” to seek votes during the election campaign, was now failing to ensure their safety.Palaniswami questioned how many more women and children must suffer sexual abuse and death at the hands of perpetrators under the TVK govt. “Where is safety for women? What are the police doing? Where is the ‘singapen’ squad?” Palaniswami asked.Nainar on X alleged that the TVK govt has not learnt any lesson from the Coimbatore incident, where a 10-year-old girl was raped and murdered. “Should our children become victims of your negligent rule? Even after the Sulur case that shook the entire state a few weeks ago, you (Vijay) failed to pay additional attention to the safety of girl children,” Nainar said.Anbumani on X alleged that the govt’s failure to curb the rampant spread of drugs, particularly ganja, has made Tamil Nadu increasingly unsafe for women and children.Annamalai insisted the state govt regulate the employment of guest workers from north India to prevent such incidents. “Over the past few months, there has been a noticeable increase in the involvement of individuals from North Indian states in crimes occurring across various parts of Tamil Nadu. Owners employing guest workers from North Indian states must furnish the govt with comprehensive details, including how many such labourers are present, in which cities they are located, their native places, current workplaces, and places of residence. I strongly emphasise that the Tamil Nadu govt must systematically monitor this,” Annamalai said.Dhinakaran on X demanded immediate answers from chief minister C Joseph Vijay regarding the “shocking” incident.
