The decision fits a larger pattern in Mahomes’ collection, where rare cars and luxury watches have become personal passions rather than passing splurges.

Mahomes opened up about his latest purchase during an interview with Robb Report, where he was asked about the newest addition to his collection.His answer was remarkably direct.“I just got a new car against my financial adviser’s wishes,” Mahomes said when asked about the most recent addition to his collection. “I got a Ferrari SF90.”The Ferrari SF90 is hardly an ordinary weekend purchase. The model sits firmly in Ferrari’s high-performance range, with new versions carrying starting prices well above $500,000 depending on the configuration. Some special editions can climb much higher.For Mahomes, however, the attraction appears to go beyond the price tag.The quarterback has been collecting cars since signing his first major NFL contract. His first major purchase was another Ferrari, the 812 Superfast, and he has kept it ever since.“I’m pretty attached to all my cars. I don’t give any of them up,” Mahomes told Robb Report. “I didn’t buy a car until I signed my first big contract. I got a Ferrari 812 Superfast and won’t give that one away. That’s why my financial adviser is so mad at me.”Mahomes’ comments suggest that his collection is personal. He does not appear interested in buying a vehicle simply to replace another one. Once a car becomes part of his collection, letting it go seems difficult.That approach may explain why his garage continues to grow.

Cars are only one part of Mahomes’ luxury collection.The Chiefs quarterback also has a sizeable watch collection, with Hublot appearing to be one of his favorite brands. During the Robb Report interview, he was wearing a Hublot Big Bang and explained why the company appeals to him.“Yeah, so this is a Hublot. It’s a Big Bang, one of my favorites in their collection,” Mahomes said. “I own a lot of watches. I don’t know what the exact number is, but there are a lot of Hublots in the collection. I like that they’re not afraid to be creative, not afraid to be bold, but still want to be the best and master all the little details as well.”His approach to spending also seems straightforward. Mahomes admitted that he rarely spends much time thinking about luxury items he decided not to purchase.“Honestly, I usually buy all the things that I want to get [laughs],” Mahomes said. “If I don’t have it, I don’t want it.”Even with his collection, Mahomes prefers driving himself when the trip is short.“I’d rather drive, as long as it’s under an hour,” Mahomes said. “Once it gets to be like above an hour, my buddy Hugo usually drives us.”Away from his toys, though, Mahomes’ offseason has involved far more serious work. After suffering ACL and LCL injuries last season, he spent months focused on rehabilitation. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Mahomes sometimes worked for as many as seven hours a day with assistant athletic trainer Julie Frymyer.So while the Ferrari may represent Mahomes’ taste for luxury, his rehabilitation remains the bigger investment. The 30-year-old quarterback now has his sights set on returning to the field and proving that his recovery can translate into another strong NFL season.
