'Police regime': Stalin slams Tamil Nadu CM Vijay over ex DMK MLA's arrest
ML Stalin alleged that the Tamil Nadu govt lacked the ability to prevent crime and was only busy targeting MLAs from opposition parties.

NEW DELHI: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Friday accused his successor Vijay of running an “action cinema-style police regime” after former DMK minister and MLA Anitha R Radhakrishnan was arrested in connection with a case registered over his remarks against the chief minister. In a post on X, Stalin alleged that the Tamil Nadu government lacked the ability to prevent murders, robberies and sexual crimes against women, but was busy targeting MLAs from opposition parties.“In the complaint made by the woman who was subjected to gang sexual assault against the TVK MLA from Thiruvaikundam, why has this ‘Pure Power government’ not taken any action so far? Why did it not show this urgency in that case?” Stalin said.“Is this the change promised by a government which, without having the ability to prevent murders, robberies and sexual crimes against women across Tamil Nadu, is busy dealing with MLAs of different parties?” he added.“Without doing any good for the people who voted for him, the Chief Minister thinks he can retain his chair through horse-trading and pass the time by arresting opposition leaders who criticise him,” Stalin further said. His remarks came after Radhakrishnan was arrested on Friday following the Madras High Court‘s dismissal of his anticipatory bail petition in a case registered over his remarks against Vijay.According to the police, the case stems from a speech delivered by Radhakrishnan at a public meeting in Athur near Tiruchendur on June 20 during the birth anniversary celebrations of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.Radhakrishnan had approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. However, the court dismissed his plea on Friday.Following the court’s order, police arrested the MLA later in the day when he visited a government office to inspect development works.Meanwhile, the TVK government recently sought Governor R.V. Arlekar’s sanction to investigate and prosecute former ministers Anitha R. Radhakrishnan and V. Senthil Balaji in connection with money laundering cases registered against them by the Enforcement Directorate.
